Professional Development
PRISM features the integration of content instruction and effective practices with the needs of individual teachers. Professional learning will be customized to the needs of the individual teacher and the school, collaboratively designed and delivered within each PRISM region.
Through the PRISM Professional Development activities, P-12 educators will demonstrate evidence of the following skills:
- Sufficient depth in SM to bring students from diverse groups to high levels of learning and achievement.
- Organize assessment, curriculum, and instruction around standards, specifically the Quality Core Curriculum (QCC) and Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) at the P-12 level.
- Customize instruction for individual student or groups of students that reflect students' own experiences, learning styles, interest, cultures, and special needs.
- Use data on student learning and achievement to set benchmarks and to monitor student progress toward continuous improvement.
- Use telecommunications and information technologies as tools for student learning.
- Manage classrooms effectively.
- Show evidence of accomplishment in bringing students from diverse groups to high levels of accomplishment.
By participating in the PRISM Professional Development activities, teachers will:
- Complete a self-assessment to determine personal professional development needs.
- Receive support from their PRISM Lead Teacher who will work within their region to ensure all professional development needs are met.
- Participate in professional development opportunities as determined by self-assessment.
The goals of the PRISM Professional Development are:
- To assess current practices in SM instruction.
- To provide high quality professional development for P-12 SM teachers.
- To share effective practices and lessons learned across Georgia.
- To increase the success of all P-12 students in SM and to increase the number of students who take challenging SM courses.
